The Story

A variation of one of the greatest and gnarliest fuzz pedals of all time: made in Japan by Shin-ei/Unicord - the same circuit as the Shaftesbury Duo Fuzz.

The name is really irrelevant - Super Fuzz or Duo Fuzz - the sound is what counts: it's basically two very different shades of monstrous filth - ripping chainsaw fuzz or brutal octave-ish wildness.

This pedal is in excellent working order & very good cosmetic condition for a pedal dating from the early-mid 70s (see detailed photos).

Notable musicians who have used the Super-Fuzz include:

  • Pete Townshend of The Who
  • Billy Cox of Jimi Hendrix
  • Kurt Cobain of Nirvana (Stolen in 1989 during the Bleach recording sessions. He mainly used the BOSS DS-1 and DS-2 afterward.)
  • Josh Homme of Them Crooked Vultures, Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss
  • Hillel Slovak of Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys uses the Ibanez Standard Fuzz, a nearly identical circuit in an altered housing.
  • Mark Arm and Steve Turner of Mudhoney
  • J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.
  • Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins (Although he was much more famous for using the Fender Blender and the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff)
  • Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys
  • Jus Oborn of Electric Wizard
  • Poison Ivy of The Cramps
  • Joe Preston of Thrones
  • Scott Hill of Fu Manchu
  • Tony McPhee of The Groundhogs
  • Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie
  • Elliott Frazier of Ringo Deathstarr
  • Gary Louris of The Jayhawks
  • Joe Denardo of Growing
  • Wil Smith of Utah

This pedal is in good working order - no crackly pots or noisy switch issues.

(Please note: it is always possible with vintage equipment that some crackly pots/sliders may develop over time when equipment has not been used - even during shipping - this can usually be easily rectified either by use or with a bit of switch-cleaning spray).

Fitted with a battery and ready to play.
